NEW DELHI: The government is going to implement a significant policy reform that requires all packaged goods sold in the retail sector, regardless of quantity, to have all product data, such as price, ingredients, origin, and important dates, listed. Up until recently, this clause applied to goods sold in retail markets in packaging no heavier than 25 kg.
Manufacturers and packers have begun producing packages weighing a few kilograms more than 25 kg to get around this standard, according to sources.
The Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules have been amended, and we’ve made the changes available for public comment through June 29. All packaged goods supplied in the retail sector are intended to fall under the purview of the regulation. According to an official, packaged goods intended for institutional and industrial users would not be subject to this clause.
Mandatory package regulations have been important because they provide customers with the information they need to make educated judgments before making a purchase.
According to the government, the changes would facilitate disclosures for producers, importers, and packers of packaged goods in any amount.
