Mahindra’s much-awaited launch has just been surreptitiously spied on. Online leaks have shown images of the next Mahindra 5-door Thar. There are no pictures of the inside or exterior of the production-ready 5-door Thar; just the front end is seen in the photos.
- A fresh 6-slot grilling layout
- To put up an LED headlight projector
- will come with three different engine choices.
The new Mahindra Thar 5-door
The pictures do, however, reveal that the Thar 5-door will feature a revised grille design with six slots instead of the seven that the current 3-door Thar has. The headlights of the Thar are still round in appearance, but they now incorporate a C-shaped DRL and an LED projector arrangement.
Moving to the side, we can see that this SUV will have a 360-degree camera arrangement thanks to the camera on the passenger wing mirror. It’s also important to note that, similar to the Maruti Suzuki Swift of the previous generation, the rear door handle is situated on the door frame.
Mahindra Thar 5-door: Our understanding
As previously said, despite being heavily camouflaged when it was spied on in the past, these are the only recent photos of the SUV. Nonetheless, we are aware that the Mahindra Thar 5-door will include two 10.25-inch screens: one for the infotainment system and one for the digital instrument panel. The ladder-on-frame SUV will reportedly have a panoramic sunroof, and higher trim levels will also come with ADAS technology—a feature that is already available on two other Mahindra vehicles, the XUV3XO and the XUV700.

A range of engine options, including a 1.5-liter diesel entry-level engine, a 2.0-liter petrol engine, a 2.2-liter diesel engine, and an automatic transmission, would be available for the next Mahindra Thar 5-door. Similar to the existing 3-door Thar on sale, the SUV will be offered with a 4WD option in addition to the regular rear-wheel drive.
Mahindra Thar 5-door: anticipated release and competitors
Mahindra has historically unveiled the three-door Thar on August 15, and we think that this year may be no different. It’s not too far away, since dealers have started taking informal reservations and production has already started on the SUV. The Force Gurkha 5-door and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be the 5-door Thar’s immediate competitors when it launches. It will, nonetheless, compete with other midsize SUVs, such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and others.
